Soothe Red, Irritated Skin With This Easy Trick

Some of the best natural skin remedies can be made using basic ingredients that are found right inside your own kitchen pantry.  Homemade beauty recipes are such a great way to avoid pricey skin procedures, as well as chemical-based products that can damage the skin.

We’re a team of avid tea drinkers here at JUNIPER and YU and for good reason.  Drinking tea on the regular can provide a whole lot of benefits to your overall physical health and well-being.  It also helps clear out problematic skin and gives you a healthy, radiant complexion.

Our tea of choice?  We always find ourselves reaching for a soothing cup of green tea during the day.  It’s no secret that green tea has been on the radar for some time due to its powerful medicinal benefits.  Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, this green superfood can supercharge your daily wellness and beauty routine.

Green tea does more than just keep your insides healthy, it can do wonders for your skin too.  Applying green tea directly to the skin can help calm irritated and inflamed skin, kill germs and acne-causing bacteria, tone skin, reduce pore size, control shine, minimize skin oil production, and protect the skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Our thoughts?  Green tea is a lot more than just a drink.  It’s an all-in-one antioxidant powerhouse.


Here is our super simple do-it-yourself skincare hack that can help heal and beautify your skin:


Step 1: 

Add one tablespoon of organic loose leaf green tea leaves in a small bowl.  Add ½ cup of hot boiling water in the bowl and let it steep until it’s completely cool. If you don’t have loose tea, bagged tea will do just fine. (Note: We recommend using a higher quality brand of green tea)


Step 2:

Next, grab some cotton rounds or pads and place them in the bowl of tea until it’s completely soaked. You can soak as many cotton pads as you like until there’s no more liquid left.


Step 3:

Gently remove the pads and squeeze out any excess tea.


Step 4:

Apply the pads directly on problem spots on your face and leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes.  For an all over face treatment, cover the entire face. 


Tip:  For an extra cooling effect, pop them in the freezer for about 3 minutes before applying them to our face.  Place a pad on each eye to de-puff and soothe tired eyes. 

For all the extra cotton pads that haven’t been used, you can store them in an airtight container or zip lock bag and place them in the fridge.  You’ll have a clean set of green tea facial pads for you to use the next day!
